STAY-AT-HOME GROOMING AND SELF-CARE TIPS FOR MEN

Trying a new look that you can maintain at home? Or maybe you’re creating a new routine? Check out these men’s grooming tips along with our recommended shaving and skincare routines so you can look and feel your best while staying at home.

Mens’ Grooming Checklist:

✔ Follow A Men's Skincare Routine

  • Learn even more in the “Men’s Skincare and Shaving Routine” section, below.
  • Be sure to wash your face daily, but don’t use regular bar soap on your face as that can produce unwanted results including dry skin and acne. This is because the ingredients used in bar soap can potentially impact your skin’s pH balance, and clog pores.
  • Shaving should still be part of your routine even if you already have a beard or are still growing a new one. You’ll want to shave your neck and cheeks to have a sharp beard neckline and well-defined style. You can also check out our detailed plan on How To Grow A Beard for expert tips, including how to pick the right beard style based on the shape of your face.

✔ Embrace Manscaping

  • Whether you’re an expert at it, trying it for the first time, or somewhere in between, now is a great time to make manscaping a part of your usual routine, especially trimming or shaving pubic hair. These two guides answer all of your questions and show you what you want to know about “How To Shave Your Pubic Hair” and other “Body Grooming Tips for Men” including tips for trimming your chest hair, underarm hair, and more.

✔ Keep Up With Your Haircuts

✔ Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Grooming Tasks

  • Monthly: Trim your eyebrows to give your face a neater appearance. Tip: gently brush your eyebrows and look for any wayward hairs, keeping in mind that your brows don’t need to match each other.
  • Weekly: Carefully trim your nose hair. Try this trimmer to make it safe and easy. Keep your fingernails and toenails trimmed, too. Run a nail file across them after cutting to remove any jagged edges.
  • Daily: Here are a few friendly reminders you may already know: Wear deodorant. Brush and floss your teeth (twice a day). Wear cologne if you want to.

Men’s Skincare and Shaving Routine

This men’s skincare routine is designed especially for guys who shave. Follow these steps morning and night to have great skin and a great shave. If you are not shaving, simply skip from step one straight to step three.

Step 1: Wash Your Face

  • Start with warm water to stimulate your skin, open up your pores, and soften the hair on your face.
  • Use a quality face wash because regular bar soap can clog your pores or dry out your skin. Be sure to use a generous amount of product, which means enough to cover your entire face and neck. Be gentle and take your time, using your fingers instead of the palm of your hands so you can feel as you go.
  • Don’t over exfoliate as that can be damaging to your skin. If you enjoy exfoliating and its results, limit it to once or twice a week.
  • Make sure you completely rinse off everything you’ve used. Leftover cleanser can lead to pimples and exfoliant can be irritating if left on the skin for too long.

Step 2: Shave Your Face

  • Now that your skin is warm, clean, and hydrated, apply shave prep to your face.
  • Next, check your razor’s lubrication strips. If they look faded or worn, or if the blades feel dull while shaving, it may be time for a new cartridge.
  • Start shaving using light, gentle strokes and be sure to rinse your blade often during this process. Wait until the end to shave the most sensitive areas of your face (such as your neck and cheeks) so the shave prep has more time to sink in.
  • Use the precision trimmer to define your sideburns, to sharpen any beard lines, and to help with tricky areas (like around the nose).
  • Pat (don’t rub!) your face dry with a towel that you designate to only use on your face. (If, for example, you use your shower towel, you may transfer dirt or other products to your face.)
  • For more tips, check out the full guide on “How To Shave Your Face.”

Step 3: Moisturize Your Face

  • Don’t forget this step: use a moisturizer after you shave (or after you wash your face if you skipped the shave). Some guys have a different moisturizer for day and night so you may want to find a moisturizer with an SPF for daytime use. (Even if you are spending practically all day inside right now.)

Congratulations.

If you follow this checklist and routine, you’ll be a master of stay-at-home grooming and self-care in no time.
