It’s that time again. Another new year, another do-over on being your best you. If that involves trimming a little padding off your dad-bod or finally claiming the bragging rights about bench-pressing your body weight, we want to help. We figure that guys who are already getting the best shaving experience deserve a workout to match. So here it goes: four myths to shed on your path to shred.
#1 Sit-ups will shred belly fat
Unfortunately not. Spot reduction is a myth. It’ll take boring old diet and exercise to make your gut flat. That or sucking in your abs and holding your breath. (Hey, it works for middle-aged men at the beach.)
#2 Six-pack abs just take committed exercise
Eh, sort of. You may be pretty shredded after 6 weeks of grueling workouts, but your abs will be hidden unless you can get your body fat down below 10%. (Think world-class marathon runner.) Having strong abs has other benefits, though, so just go for it.
#3 Body hair makes you less aerodynamic
OK, so not totally a myth. There’s a reason you never see hairy Olympic swimmers. But at the speed the average weekend athlete is moving, that manly hair-covered chest is not the issue. Still not sure? Whip out the Gillette BodyTM Razor to make your chest smooth, turn on your stopwatch, and test out your theory.
#4 Always pay top dollar for workout gear
Not all gear is equally worth a major investment, but the pieces that have a big impact on your performance or health or are meant to last (such as good shoes) are def worth the extra bucks. Years of scientists toiling away in labs went into making all that gear that puts you at the top of your game – stuff like your running shoes or your fitness tracker. So now you know. That’s four less myths standing in the way of you getting in shape. Go for it – you’ve got nothing to lose but those love handles.
